Take a stroll along Jonker walk at Jalan Hang Jebat to experience the hustle and bustle of Malacca where you can find variety of local food as well as souvenirs and antiques.
During the day, it will be super duper hot, no thanks to the bright shiny sun but still you can see many people with sunnies, umbrella or hat exploring shops on both side .
At night, more traders lined the street and this is where I would say packed like sardin… You really got to squeezed through the crowd all the way till the other end.
One of my favorite snack in Jonker street is the famous popiah with lard…
Fried popiah priced at Rm1 each. Fried till golden brown, it is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and best served with chili sauce.
Normal popiah priced at RM2 each.
This time though a lil disappointed bcoz uncle used pork oil instead of lard.. 😦 uncle, i wan lard la…
muah chee at Rm2
Perspire like hell?? Take a break with some yummy ice cream or herbal drinks…
Red bean and mango priced at RM1.30 each. Both are equally flavorful
Luo han guo at RM1 or RM1.20 for takeaway.
Not to be missed is of coz the pork satay. It is located at Jalan Portugis, just next to Jonker street opposite Pay Teck school.
The marinated pork was grilled till perfection but it’s a tad too salty that day
Mention chicken rice ball and right away they tell you Malacca, so off we go for their signature delicacy. We wanted to dine at Chung Wah but the queue was too long so we chose Hoe Kee instead, located just opposite. Also famous with curry fish head, it claimed.
We were seated right away and ordered chicken for two, rice ball and asam fish.
The presentation looks more appealing than Chung Wah version but the meat was not as smooth as theirs and it was actually quite chewy – RM9
Each of the rice ball was infused with the chicken broth but personally, I dont like the sticky rice – RM4 for 20
and this was a total letdown. It has the fishy smell and the asam was not sourish and spicy enough to bring the oommphhh to the whole dish. RM24 for tail – felt so cheated. Total bill was RM41.80 for the four of us including drinks.
As much as I wanted to try everything out there, the sun hindered my plan. I was even too lazy to snap all the goodies that I had no thanks to the heat. If I shall go there again, I’ll explore only at 5pm so that I can see Jonker at day and night and I dont get sun burn 😀
Bye bye hot Malacca!!
